NHS Swindon & Wiltshire PCT
After having already worked with Swindon PCT on developing a series of patient self-help booklets, we were asked to design the 2006-2007 Annual Report. This challenge was one we relished, as having seen previous reports, realised that even within the strict NHS guidelines there was room for development and creativity which would bring the report to life in a way which we felt had been previously missed. Through the use of colour, white space, typography and paper stock, we were able to create a finished report which had a warm, accessible feel, whilst remaining true to the guidelines. We created bespoke hand-drawn charts and tables, which helped to bring the information to life, and make the reading of document as a whole more enjoyable.
After the success of the 06-07 report we were asked to design the report for 07-08. This time we were asked by the new head of the PCT to reflect the changes she would be bringing and design a document which had a clean, fresh feel. This time we exploited the use of white space, and used typography and colour to highlight and impact where necessary. Through all of our work with the NHS, we have proven that even within the most strict guidelines, creativity can be used to engage with the audience and improve communication.
